Spain approves migrant regularization process
What has been approved?
The Government has approved a Royal Decree that enables an extraordinary administrative regularization process for migrants already living in Spain.
What does it allow?
- Obtain a one-year residence and work permit.
- Work in any sector and throughout the national territory from the start of the application process.
Key dates
- Publication in the BOE: April 15
- Entry into force: April 16
- End of application period: June 30
- Start of in-person service: April 20

Who can apply?
- People in irregular administrative situation.
- Applicants for international protection.
General requirements:
- Have been in Spain before January 1, 2026.
- Prove continuous stay of at least five months.
- Have no criminal record and not pose a risk to public order, security or public health.
Additional requirements for people in irregular situation Must meet at least one of the following conditions:
- Have worked in Spain.
- Have direct family members in the country.
- Prove a situation of vulnerability.
How to apply?
- Electronically, available 24 hours, with digital certificate.
- In person, with prior appointment, at designated Foreigners’ Offices, Social Security or Post Offices.
